Starting a flower farm was never part of the original plan. But then again, neither was the whimsical magic that now fills the fields of Flower Faerie Farm.
It’s hard to believe that just a few months ago, we were knee-deep in January’s chill, planting the very first seeds that would later bloom into something special. Our farm has blossomed from an idea into a growing business—and while the journey has been anything but predictable, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
This is the story of how Flower Faerie Farm came to life—and how we learned that growing flowers is as much about embracing the unexpected as it is about planting seeds.

How Did Flower Faerie Farm Begin? The Dream, The Plan, and The Reality
In early January, when most of the world is bundled up in warm blankets, we found ourselves standing in the cold, plotting the future of what would eventually become our flower farm. It was a dream that had been growing in our minds for quite some time. We’d always loved flowers—who doesn’t? But we had no idea what it really took to run a flower farm.
Starting in January, with nothing but hope (and a little bit of Floret inspiration), we dove headfirst into the world of farming. With little previous experience, we had to learn everything on the fly. The concept was simple: grow beautiful, locally sourced flowers to bring joy to our community. But we quickly discovered that “simple” doesn’t always mean easy.

The Trials of Starting a Flower Farm from Scratch
If we could offer one piece of advice to anyone thinking of starting their own flower farm: Be ready for the ups and downs and killing a few (or maybe hundreds) of plants. While flowers are a symbol of beauty, growing them is no walk in the park. Here are some of the challenges we faced in the first few months:
1. The Learning Curve
We didn’t seem to have a green thumb—we had a lightly purple one. Everything from amending our soil, planting seeds at the right time, transplanting hundreds of seedlings instead of a few, to understanding local weather patterns was a huge learning curve. We quickly realized that Mother Nature doesn't follow a schedule, and the flowers didn’t always bloom as planned.
2. The Weather — A Wild Beast
Winter is not the best time to plant flowers outdoors, but we still had seeds to sow. Our first big challenge was learning how to grow seedlings indoors until the warmer weather arrived. Some plants, like our beloved sunflowers, are especially sensitive to frost. However, some plants like to be a little chilly. So we spent some of our time experimenting and despite our best efforts, we lost a few crops to unexpected frosts.
3. Equipment, Equipment, Equipment
Growing flowers means using the right tools. From shovels to irrigation systems, we found ourselves constantly needing more equipment. As a new farm, we didn’t have a budget to go big, so we had to get creative with what we had—and rely on a lot of good old-fashioned elbow grease and Marigold, our farms Kubota tractor!

But… The Successes! How Flower Faerie Farm Came to Life
Despite all the obstacles, the rewards of running a flower farm are well worth the struggle. Watching our first blooms appear was nothing short of magical. Here are some of the moments that made us feel like we were on the right path:
1. The First Blooms
After months of planning, planting, and hoping, we finally saw the first blossoms peek out of the soil. There’s no feeling quite like it—knowing that the plants you’ve nurtured have come to life. Our Snow drops, Tulips, and Heirloom Narcissus were the first to bloom, filling our hearts with joy.
2. Community Support
One of the best surprises was how quickly our community embraced us. As newcomers to the Dallas, GA area, we didn’t expect such a warm welcome. The local Dallas GA Farmers Market and fellow small businesses have supported us, and we’ve quickly become part of the fabric of the local community.
3. Sustainable Growth
We’re proud to say that we’ve learned a lot about growing flowers sustainably. As we start to expand, we’re committed to using eco-friendly practices that not only protect the environment but also ensure the best flowers for our customers.

A Heartfelt Story: The Magic of Our First Farmers Market
Our first experience at the Dallas Farmers Market was both humbling and inspiring. We had no idea what to expect, but we were ready to share our blooms with the community. The first customer we sold a bouquet to was a good friend in the community, Amy. Part of our local Dallas GA Woman’s Club, she has been a big advocate for local small businesses in the area. Flowers have the power to heal, to connect, and to bring joy. All of our customers have brought us such joy to meet with and learn about your stories and connections with flowers.
Those moments made all the hard work feel worth it.

What’s Next for Flower Faerie Farm?
We’re just getting started, and the future is looking as bright as our growing sunflower fields. In the coming months, we plan to expand our flower varieties, work on sustainability initiatives, and continue building relationships with our local community. There’s a lot to look forward to!
